  • Industry: Real Estate Agency
  • Size: 30+
  • Website: site.com
  • Status: Finnished
Problem: slow wireless speed, repetitive client disconnections, no firewall, bad IP reputation all on Apple enviroment.

Project Requirements

  • Hi speed and most important stabile wireless connections
  • NAS Storage with user private folder and department public zone
  • VLAN for VoIP, CCTV, Guest network and correct firewall settings

Project Overview

Troubleshooting was almost impossible without a network redesign as the client had 12 switches in cascade mode with unmanaged switches in the middle. Firewall was missconfigured and the WAN IP had a bad reputation affecting web navigation.

The Challenge

To give the employes a stable wireless network for MacBooks with hi-speed download/upload for pictures and documents to and from the NAS.

The Approach & Solution

First things first, I had to do the structured cabling as most of them were used in loop mode. I know! It took me some thime to get over this. After solving this and having the wired network with proper labeling the next step was firewall and CCTV. Moving the CCTV on a dedicated VLAN made my work a lot easyer. Firewall was a big task as it was missconfigured and the LAN side was vulnerable. Old D-Link, TP-Link, Cisco, with old firmwares was not helping me at all. Also the old local domain server (Dell R210, Windows Server 2008R2) was not updated for more than 2 years as it was not used as AD&DC. I also found a Qnap TS-470 with 2 out of 4 disks installed in RAID 1 for domain controller backups but one 4TB disk was faulty so the data recevry took us a very long time as we replace the disk, rebuid RAID and then copy the information (about 2TB) to the new Synology NAS.

The solution was replacing Apple Time Capsule with Ubiqiti AC PRO AP, the old D-Link router was replaced with a USG-Pro, for the VoIP we decided to use the Ubiquiti phones instead of Cisco IP 303/305 wich were not functional for more then 6 months due to 3CS software installed in a virtual machin on the Dell server wich also had one bad HDD. For the CCTV unfortunelly we had to keep the existing system (Dahua DVR) because we were unable to replace the Coaxial cable with LAN cable in and outside the office as it is rented space. Th other big improvment it is the NAS solution based on Synology RS820+ with RAM upgrade, on witch we did the file server with Public folder access, scan folder from the multifunctional printer and most inportant part it is the private folder for each emplyee to upload the photos taken on the properties to be listed on their website.
